"B" de burro ("D" for donkey)

This is a brief note on a Mexican trademark.

'Es "B" de burro o "V" de vaca?'

This could only be asked by a Mexican, because in Mexican Spanish Vs are pronounced like Bs. The sentence literally means: 'Is that a B for donkey or a C for cow?' but the questioner is actually asking whether the thing that sounds like a B is actually a V - the V for vaca.

To me its relatively obvious that "vaccionacion" (vaccination) is spelt with a V and not a B, whereas it's 50-50 for many Mexicans. This, I discovered, is a slight advantage to me playing Spanish Scrabble, so long as my opponents believe me when I say it's a V and not a B! It took me a while to understand that a "Bolbo" in discussion was in fact a Volvo.

While on the subject of burros. They are probably as Mexican as sombreros, and they are everywhere in modern society... for example the ironing board is called a burro and the fender on our new truck is called a "tumba burros" (thing for knocking over donkeys).
